EAASI Welcomes Robbe Van Wichelen as New Young Ambassador

The European Association of Aerial Surveying Industries (EAASI) is pleased to welcome Robbe Van Wichelen as its newest Young Ambassador.

Based in Switzerland, Robbe began his journey at BSF Swissphoto, in 2021 as an intern, where he gained valuable hands-on experience in various LiDAR and orthophoto projects. Over time, he steadily expanded his expertise in data processing, quality control, and project workflows. In 2023, he advanced to the role of Project Manager, where he now oversees projects and applies his strong academic background—an educational Bachelor's degree in Geography and Computer Science from Artevelde University of Applied Sciences in Ghent, Belgium. His key qualifications include proficiency in photogrammetry and airborne laser scanning, supported by practical experience across different stages of project execution.

When asked what he likes most about his profession, Robbe explained, "What I enjoy most is the way advanced tools like aerial imagery and airborne laser scanning allow us to create highly detailed 3D models and orthophotos. Each project feels like solving a complex puzzle, from planning flight missions and collecting data in challenging conditions to turning that information into products that support real-world decisions."

"The most rewarding part, though, is seeing the impact of our work. Knowing that our data helps shape projects like airports, tunnels, or sustainable urban planning makes all the technical effort worthwhile. And on a personal level, there’s something truly inspiring about having a profession that quite literally gives me a different perspective on the world."

Robbe's appointment reflects EAASI’s commitment to supporting the next generation of industry leaders and innovators. As a Young Ambassador, he will share his experiences, engage with students and young professionals, and help highlight the exciting career opportunities within aerial surveying.

The European Association of Aerial Surveying Industries (EAASI) Young Ambassador Program is an initiative designed to connect with the next generation of innovators in the aerial surveying industry.

The program aims to showcase diverse and dynamic careers within the aerial surveying industry while empowering young professionals to become ambassadors for their fields.
