Webinar: Turning Geospatial Data into Public Value

Regional and Local Perspectives

Across Europe, regional and local mapping authorities are increasingly at the forefront of geospatial innovation. Working close to citizens and public decision-makers, these organisations are transforming aerial data, GIS, and Earth observation into practical tools that support urban planning, sustainability strategies, infrastructure management, and a wide range of public services.

As part of its ongoing webinar programme, EAASI is organising a new online event on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, bringing together three sub-national authorities from different European countries. The webinar will showcase how crewed airborne data is being used in real-world public-sector applications, delivering tangible value at the regional and local levels.

📅 Date: Wednesday, 11 March 2026

🕚Time: 11:00–12:30 CET

💻Format: Online (Microsoft Teams)

Speakers:

Laura Pullen – GIS Manager, Nottingham City Council (UK). Laura will present how Nottingham City Council uses aerial imagery to support urban and city planning, including the assessment of major planning applications and stakeholder engagement. Her contribution will highlight the use of 3D photomeshes and physical 3D models derived from aerial data, as well as insights from the Council’s return-on-investment analysis.

Gabriel J. Ortiz – Chief of Cartography and GIS, Government of Cantabria (Spain). Gabriel will discuss the development of a regional Earth observation system built around airborne sensors. His presentation will explore how aerial imagery and LiDAR support a wide range of applications, from GeoAI-driven analysis to digital twins based on point clouds and orthophotos, demonstrating how long-term and up-to-date aerial data can unlock significant value for public administrations.

Marc Riedo – Head of the GIS Centre, State of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Marc will provide an overview of GIS activities in the Canton of Neuchâtel, with a focus on LiDAR-based use cases and how elevation data supports planning, environmental management, and decision-making at the cantonal level.

This webinar forms part of EAASI’s broader efforts to promote knowledge exchange across the geospatial ecosystem and to highlight the critical role that crewed airborne data plays in enabling modern, data-driven public administration across Europe.
